integrated sustainability

Sustainability has become a key component of any intelligent design discussion. At MSA we've integrated sustainable thinking into our core values, design approach, and business practices for several years. We devote considerable time and effort to education and research, in order to stay ahead of the curve for our clients benefit, and we can provide sustainable design consulting services to other design professionals and owners on a case-by-case basis (such as 'woodward at copper').

We've been USGBC members since 2004; the majority of our staff are LEED accredited professionals. MSA is also an EPA 'energy star' partner. We designed the first building in Colorado to be GBI 'Green Globes' certified (summit county MRF), and the first home in Breckenridge to incorporate ground source heat (the wong residence). Matt co-founded the Summit Green Building Project, and spearheaded the development and adoption of the Summit Sustainable Building Code. He currently serves on the advisory panel for that code, as well as the advisory board for the High Country Conservation Center.

Sustainable design works best when it is considered at the outset of a project, rather than 'tacked on' at the end to satisfy outside interests, or 'make the project greener'. Each project is unique, and not all will become LEED Platinum certified. But all projects will benefit from having informed discussions, up front, so that our clients and the design team can establish priorities and make informed decisions as the project moves forward.
